Dame Iritana Te Rangi Tāwhiwhirangi (born 1928), is an advocate of Māori language education and the Kohanga Reo movement. She is of Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāpuhi, Canadian and English descent and is active in the Ngāti Porou community. She attended Hukarere Girls’ School. She is a life member of the Māori Women's Welfare League and Toitū Kaupapa Māori Mātauranga - Māori Education Trust. She is on the Board of Trustees of the Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust.〔http://www.kohanga.ac.nz/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1&Itemid=155〕 In the New Year Honours 1992, Tāwhiwhirangi was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
